 Day 1: Depart Terre Haute traveling to Alton, Il to board the Celebration Belle for a full day of cruising on the Mississippi River. A luxury Riverboat with two enclosed dining decks and two observation decks. Live entertainment, music, and activities throughout the day. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the views while the Captain narrates history along the way. We will cruise round-trip from Alton to St. Louis. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner plus an afternoon snack as we look for points of interest along the way. Cruise thru the Melvin Price Lock - The newest lock on the Mississippi River. Cruise thru the Chain of Rocks. Cruise under and view the Eads Bridge which is the most historical bridge on the Mississippi River - Believed to have been built in the 1800's. Cruise past the St. Louis Arch. View the St. Louis Harbor. Return to Alton for our overnight.
Day 2: We start our day at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. 50 kegs of pork...4 barrels of corn...2 bags of sugar...how would you pack for a two year journey? We also visit the Melvin Price Locks and Dam 26 to see the best view of Alton and the Mississippi River from eight stories in the air. One of the largest locks on the Mississippi River, the locks and dam is central to river traffic for soybeans, corn, grain, asphalt, and other commodities that are transported via the river. Our next stop is the National Great Rivers Exhibit Center. Dedicated to telling the story of life on the Mighty Mississippi River and how it has shaped our culture, history, economy, ecology, and people of the region. After lunch, all good things must come to an end as we journey home. |
