The mystique long associated with Texas is easily as big as the state itself. Over the past four centuries, much has happened to shape this incomparable land.  This tour is designed to show you the Heart of Texas.  As diverse as Texas is ... so is this tour as we will explore the big cities, drive the back roads, and you will learn why they say “Texas ... It’s like a Whole Other Country!”

HIGHLIGHT CITY: Dallas, TX • Forth Worth, TX • Waco, TX • Austin, TX • San Antonio, TX

FEATURES:  Fort Worth Historic District Guided Tour -  Learn all about this major stop of the Chisolm Trail and see the Old West come to life with a cattle drive. • George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum -  Visit Freedom Hall, a high definition video wall montage of 44 of the United States presidents, and a full-sized Oval Office. The museum and accompanying 15-acre urban park reside on the campus of Southern Methodist University, the alma mater of former First Lady Laura Bush. • Six Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza - Walk through a timeline of John F. Kennedy’s life, presidency, and the moments of November 22 as an entire nation stood by.  A live feed from the museum webcam features a real-time view from the sniper spot and two areas in the museum were recreated to appear as they did in 1963. • Texas Ranger Museum - Home of the official Texas Hall of Fame for the legendary Rangers.  Exhibits trace the history of the Texas Rangers with historical artifacts related to the time that has been spanned by the law enforcement agency. • The Armstrong Browning Library - Dedicated to the study of the lives and works of Victorian poets Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning and houses the world’s largest collection of Browning material and other fine collections of rare 19th-century books, manuscripts, and works of art. • Magnolia Market at the Silos (three hour visit) - Time to shop, explore the grain silos, and the 20,000 square-foot barn.  Lunch will be from one of the food trucks on property, a local restaurant, or by chance at Magnolia’s Table. (They do not take reservations and the wait time can be hours.) • San Antonio Missions National Historical Park -  A reminder of one of Spain’s most successful attempts to extend its New World dominion from Mexico. • The Alamo - The most famous spot in Texas where 189 defenders fell on March 6, 1836, after repeated attacks by Mexican General Santa Anna’s army. • Market Square “El Mercado” - The rich culture of San Antonio abounds throughout the plazas of Market Square.  A three-block outdoor plaza lined with restaurants and shops and is the largest Mexican market in the United States. • River Walk (Paseo Del Rio) - Located 20 feet below street level and steps from the famed Alamo, the Paseo del Rio, better known as the River Walk, awaits you.  Aside the meandering San Antonio River, stone pathways connect shops, restaurants, and museums.  Among these walkways’ commerce meets culture with the sounds of mariachis serenading diners and river taxis carrying guests across the spring-fed river. • San Antonio River Walk Narrated Cruise - The 35-minute narrated cruise on quiet electric barges will take you on an enchanting journey through San Antonio’s rich history, from La Villita, the city’s first neighborhood (and where General Santa Anna placed his cannon line in the Battle of the Alamo), and past the Old Mill Crossing where Teddy Roosevelt led his Rough Riders.  Learn about the city’s architecture and points of interest, such as Selena’s Bridge, where Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla Pérez’s husband proposed to her in the movie; the Hyatt Regency Hotel, designed so its height would not cast a shadow on the Alamo in the setting sun; and the Briscoe Western Art Museum. • The Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library and Museum - A hub for historical memorabilia from the Lyndon B. Johnson Administration, the LBJ Presidential Library offers a unique look at American history. Experience the 1960’s through a variety of interactive and engaging exhibits like a replica of LBJ's Oval Office, numerous telephone recordings of the 36th President and artifacts from Lady Bird Johnson’s environmental efforts. • Texas State Capitol - Tour the massive three-story Sunset Red Texas Granite structure that is the largest capitol building in the United States, standing 14 feet higher than the U.S. Capitol building. Keep an eye out for elegant and ornate details, from the giant brass door hinges (so beautiful that people have tried to steal them over the decades!), to the detailed handrails. Look closely at the brass chandeliers in the House of Representatives Chamber to find that the light bulbs spell out T-E-X-A-S.
